Dear Pen-Pal,
My local barista made me the "signature drink" he is developing for a barista competition at the end of the month. His drink is a cappuccino with peanut butter, maple syrup and a banana garnish. Hmm... It's actually not bad, a little chunky toward the bottom, but, not as sweet as I thought it would be. Oh yeah, it's called the "Elvis"!

Dear Pen-Pal,
I haven't been doing much of the cooking lately. I do cook breakfast, but that's
Do you eat eggs?
We went to a haunted restaurant that specialized in exotic meats. I had a variety of intriguing dishes, which I wont list here, in case you are a vegetarian and such things will gross you out.

To Jimmy Ohio - February 10 2010
Dear Jimmy Ohio,
I went to an "Art Walk" in my neighborhood this weekend. It was actually pretty disappointing. The highlights/memorable moments were: a Metallica themed BBQ truck titled "Grill em All". And, there was one gallery that served tiny Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with a variety of butters, jellies and breads.

Dear Pen-Pal,
My girlfriend, Megan, really liked your stationary and told me how cute stationary was all she really wanted for Christmas (?!!). I went to the Japanese bookstore today in search of something comparably cute to get her for Valentines Day. The stationary I got has animals doing things that are cute, perhaps cooking.
Happy snow day.

From JT No date (recieved February 12 2010)
The film show sounds great. They had a similar show at the Whitney a few years ago.
Do you watch Doctor Who?
I've invited an expert on Philip K. Dick to come to Troy and lecture in a few week, v excited about that.
Cheers

We went to a lecture the other week and I learned about Lis Rhodes and more specifically about a multi-projector piece called "Light Music", that utilized the sound of film and was presented in the basement of the Tate.
Her work reminded me of you and Maryanne...it was a two-fer.
I am assuming the US or Canada lost the postcard I sent or they lost your response. I am sending this postcard in an envelope in an attempt to avert the problem

Hi Gabe,
I looked on youtube for you name, so I could see you dancing, but I think maybe I haven't spent enough time on youtube to feel like I know my way around. Send me a link if your up for sharing? I didn't end up at the opera, or even in Leipzig, but I did see the Alps and some dear old friends, and a prison, and a baroque creche with humongous and sort of ominously ornate angels. Right now I'm making lots of soups and roasted veggies. Also short fiction and one long piece that you'd probably recognize bits from my first summer at _____. Draft four in the works hoping to have draft five by March.
What are you cooking these days?

Dear Pen-pal,
Oh dear, I believe we may now be on an anti terrorist watch group! There is something wonderful about postcards - they bridge and confuse the private and public so beautifully! Yet I think your reading of Toronto's coat of arms may be colored by the US Propaganda Machine - the beaver and bear are welcoming the eagle. Diversity is our strength. I am currently very stressed with school - and a toothache. I went to the dentist for the first time in forever last fall. And got a filling. This dentist however, is no artiste, and still am disturbed by the foreignness of the stuff filling the cavity. Not sculpted well. So, I am weary of returning. Hope all is well in sunny California.
XO K
p.s. "Fanny pack" is a universal wrong.
p.p.s Beans says "hi"

We went to a lecture about the exhibition of film/video/new media.
The most interesting part was learning about a show of "expanded cinema" that took place in the basement of the Tate. In the show in the Tate basement they presented a film by Steve Farrer that involved a projector that spins.
Also, everyone viewing the show had to wear a hardhat.

To AK February 1 2010
The other day I went to a restaurant located in an old hotel-turned-low-income-housing. We somehow found out that the building is supposedly haunted and more specifically that the incinerator in the sub-basement is haunted. We got our waiter to draw us a map to the basement so that we could see for ourselves. We snuck past the security guard (who was watching football), took the elevator down to the underground garage which we crossed and took a flight of stairs down to the lower garage where we came to a door with a non-functioning lock and chain. We removed the chain and opened the door to another stairway. This stairway had no lights, broken caution tape, and a few wobbly steps. These stairs led to a large hall. At the other end of this hall was the haunted incinerator. We unfortunately couldn't cross the hall because we didn't have a flashlight and our cell-phones didn't provide enough illumination to show the way.
The owner of the restaurant said that if we come back on an off night he will take us on a tour.

Dear Gabe,
Thank you for the postcard! I am excited that I can use is it as a reason to get a cork-board. These will all go up on it.
I wish someone would develop a board game version of Q-bert that was 3D.
Saw a lovely/horible movie this week, The Calamari Wrestler. Have you seen/heard of it? It's kind of amazing.

From JT - No Date
Hi Gabe~
What are you working on in LA? I don't have a good understanding of California below Big Sur, I've not experienced it thoroughly enough. I just finished a new video about a couple who are married in an online game world. Now figuring out what next, hopefully something something sci-fi in honor of Maryanne.

Dear Pen-pal,
I am sorry that my last postcard was lost in the mail, maybe it will show up several months from now.
I came to Los Angeles because I believe there is more opportunity here than in rural Oregon. The streets may not be paved with gold, but at least they aren't paved with wood chips and spotted owls.

Dear Gabe,
I've been traveling the past few weeks. Just got your email and I'm looking forward to our exchanges! How is LA? When did you head down there?
Reading a lot now. I just read Wittgenstein. So Many amazing things in it. Today I will read Discipline and Punish by Foucault. Heady intellectual stuff. But for all this reading, I only have the Gertrude Stein quote stuck in my head "There is no there there".
I didn't receive your first letter/card _ Not sure if you have the correct address - it's on the envelope.
Enjoy CA.
